Angie's Pick of the Month

the Walking Dead

An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe, causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled: There is no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV. In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally begin living.
THIS ISSUE: Rick Grimes is not prepared for this. A couple months ago he was a small town cop who had never fired a shot and only ever saw one dead body. Separated from his family he must now sort through the death and confusion to try and find his wife and son.

Despite the fact that Vol 11 is already out and 12 is soon to be on its way this summer, Walking Dead still remains unknown to some people.  If you're a fan of zombies then you should already be reading this, but if you're not then prepare to have your mind blown. Don't let the fact that this book is in B&W deter you because the art is so well done that color would honestly only take away from the storytelling. Robert Kirkman's writing is what makes this book a must-read, his character development and dialogue make you really feel and worry about what happens next. But beware, this is a zombie book and no one is ever safe...

In other zombie news (but really the same)
AMC has ordered six episodes of Walking Dead: the tv series! They've even cast main character ex-cop Rick Grimes. For your viewing pleasure, a side by side of Rick and actor Andrew Lincoln.

Picks of the Week

the Flash: Secret Files & Origins 2010

In the aftermath of BLACKEST NIGHT and THE FLASH: REBIRTH comes the beginning of a new era for Barry Allen and the deadly Rogues! As Barry readjusts to life again, strange happenings explode across Central City that will lead to one of the most bizarre murder mysteries Barry will ever face in the upcoming THE FLASH #1!

If you've never read a Flash book now is a good time to start. With Geoff Johns writing you couldn't ask for a better jumping off point. Everything you need to know about all of the current Flashes can be found in this book which includes a handy dossier-style description of the main characters after the story. You will not be disappointed!

Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton
Things look bleak for the Kryptonians as Brainiac reveals his trump card for destroying the planet, leaving Zod grasping at straws as to how to defend his people. But Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes have made it aboard Brainiac's ship, determined to stop the tyrant at any cost!

This issue has everything: General Zod being a giant jerk, a surprising villain appears again, the much needed return of the Legion of Superheroes,  and some serious Brainiac butt-kicking. But is that all enough to stop Brainiac from adding another bottle to his collection?

Marvel Zombies 5
To obtain a cure for the zombie virus for Morbius the Living Vampire, Aaron Stack, Agent of ARMOR, must traverse alternate realities hunting down the plague in all its myriad forms...with a most unusual (but somehow oddly appropriate) partner! First up: in the Alterniverse known as "The Territory," the Old West never died. But when the greatest gunslingers of Marveldom -- Two-Gun Kid, Phantom Rider, Kid Colt, and many others -- rise from their graves in Boot Hill, the stage is set for a High Noon showdown with flesh-eating outlaws the likes of which you've never seen!

I know what you're thinking ANOTHER Marvel Zombies book, but don't let that 5 up there fool you, this one is worth it. Each issue will focus on one alternate Earth where Machine Man must collect zombie samples in order to find a cure. First Earth up: OLD WEST EARTH. I'll give you a little tid-bit its got Quick-silver as a quick-draw gunslinger. Awesome.

Invincible Returns this week!

For those that haven't read Invincible yet, it's an epic tale set in the Image universe, about Mark Grayson, the teenage son of the world's famous super hero Omni Man. Mark's life is full of the typical dramas faced by most teenagers, along with fact that his powers are starting to develop on their own. Yet, Mark's dreams of becoming a super hero along side his father might not be all as he hoped. For fans of both Teen Titans and Spider-Man, Invincible puts a fresh spin on the classic hero archetype with touches of tongue in cheek humor and great adventure.  Invincible Returns #1 comes out this week and is a great jumping on point, but Mark's coming of age tale to this point is also collected in 11 paperback volumes or 4, soon to be 5, hardcover collections. ~ Frazier

More Movies and Comics, Comics and Movies

KickAss is a brutally violent comic. It's garish, bloody and way too much fun. Created by Mark Millar and drawn by one of the best artists in the business, John Romita, Jr. The story is so simple stupid it makes you say, why didn’t I think of that? What happens when a normal kid with no super powers or abilities decides to become a superhero? What happens is exactly what you think would happen; he gets his ass kicked and it’s not pretty. With the help of the internet he becomes an overnight sensation. The story unfolds in 8 issues but it’s currently collected in a nice looking hardcover. It’s definitely worth checking out the comic before you see it on the big screen.
